When I was diagnosed with PPC, the General Surgeon who discovered my cancer told my husband that he needed to bring me to MD Anderson since my cancer was considered both rare and incurable. We didn’t hesitate and immediately made an appointment and was introduced to Dr. Shannon Weston who is absolutely fabulous and believes in attacking cancer aggressively. I also see Dr. Diane Wilder at CARTI Cancer Center to treat my tumors. I consider these two women to be a dynamic duo whom I love and thank God everyday for bringing them into my life to stand beside me and hold me up during my cancer journey.
She attacked my tumors using both surgery and chemo therapy. Western medicine is also known as conventional or mainstream and is the most common method of treating cancer in the United States.
Whether or not you decide to do western medicine or not, please make sure you do your research and don’t choose to not do something before you understand the ramifications it may have on your survival.
The most common methods western medicine uses to fight cancerous tumors is surgery, chemotherapy, pharmaceutical drugs that stop cancer cells from growing and multiplying (not to kill the actual cancer), radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. Although these treatments can be effective, they can also have severe side effects such as, hair loss, weight loss, nausea, chemo rash, chemo brain fog, mouth sores, feet and hand blisters and many more. While all of these methods are good at treating the symptoms of cancer (tumors) they do not kill the actual cancer cells roaming freely throughout my bloodstream. But I understand that with an aggressive cancer such as mine, western medicine is crucial for my survival.
